Carl Sandburg College’s Tony Paris has won the 2018 Illinois Mathematics Association of Community Colleges Award for Teaching Excellence.

Paris, who serves as coordinator and assistant professor of mathematics at Sandburg and has taught at the College since 1999, received the award during the 43rd annual IMACC Conference last weekend in Monticello. It is the first time a Sandburg instructor has earned the honor.

The award is given annually to an outstanding mathematics teacher at an Illinois community college. Winning criteria include instructional effectiveness and support of students (such as innovative teaching strategies, alternative assessment methods and curriculum development); active participation in professional involvement and development; and service to the college community.

As this year’s IMACC Award for Teaching Excellence winner, Paris will also be nominated for the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges’ Award for Teaching Excellence, to be given out next spring.
